‘Poppy - The Ghost Hunter of Dunster’ is an A4 sized, fully illustrated hardcover book which follows a bubbly little sausage dog Poppy around Dunster village in her quest to find ghosts.
Even though the base stories for the book were derived from the ghost tales author Nina Dodd collected from Dunster for her 2023 ‘Witches, Giants and A Ghost Cat’ book, this children’s book has been written and illustrated to suit children between the ages of 4 and 10.
The story and the illustrations are not scary, but the emphasis is on a fun and interactive adventure where readers can help little Poppy spot the ghosts on the pages of the book.
Besides being an exploration of Dunster, the story has an underlying theme of acceptance and love for one another - no matter how different we are.
The two main characters, Poppy and her brother Peanut, are total opposites - one rushing from one venture to another and the other preferring to stay at home and watch telly with his human mommy. Yet, after a day of running around, Poppy is happy to come back to her beloved brother. In the words of Poppy: “We certainly are all different…but it’s wonderful to be back home.”
‘Poppy - The Ghost Hunter of Dunster’ is available to purchase at Dunster Living shop, 30 High Street (open every day 10am-5pm) and online at www.dunsterbooks.com.

A Travel Guide to the Mystery Tales of Dunster
Nina Dodd, Author • Asia Wetherell, Illustrator
'Witches, Giants and a Ghost Cat' makes a fantastic read for anyone interested in English superstitions, ghost stories, folklore and history. Centuries old beliefs and historical events have been tied in with examples discovered in Dunster - a quintessential English village frequently described as one of the best preserved medieval villages in the UK.
Interestingly, not all the stories told of Dunster are ancient. Recent surveys show that nearly half of the British population believe in ghosts, and therefore it is no wonder that stories of new encounters pop up frequently, and are shared with the like-minded.
'Witches, Giants and a Ghost Cat' can be read as a collection of intriguing English stories and superstitions, but it also doubles up as a thrilling walking companion to this beautiful village located on the northern edge of the Exmoor National Park.
